Ask Guru Gobbo #131

Here's something weird. Half of the questions are from the same three people across many days. I only say it 'cuz I don't think it's happened before. Also, I had nothing else of merit to share. No one cares of the status my mayonnaise jar collection reaches. Psst, two!

I'm missing one pesky treasure chest on kirby and the amazing mirror and I don't even know where it is! I've had this game a long time too and it could be anywhere! how am I supposed to find it! by the way it's a music score.

- Gameqube

Squeaky Bogg

This sounds remarkably similar to the problem that Cheesy had with Amazing Mirror, although he gave even less information. Don't get too proud; you didn't do much better. He at least gave collateral information to allow the precise item to be pinpointed. You just narrowed it to "a" Music Sheet. There's a lot. I'm not going to step-by-step you to all them. As was told to him, if you can't figure out what it is, find out where it's at using Game FAQs.

Really, is this site unknown or something? I've been going there for years as my number one source for game hints and cheats since, well, it is the number one source. It's part of the same network that Rainbow Resort is part of, having consumed Game Spy in its acquisition of most media sites. Not only that, but many past Resort Staff have contributed greatly to the place. And, really, each Kirby Games' page links directly to the its corresponding Game FAQs page.

When the question is "why did this" or "how did this", it may be better suited for here. However, if you just want to know how to beat, find, or do X in game Y, use Game FAQs. I always have. I never even really thought about adding this to the "Did you check here before asking the Gurus?" list in the Gobbo FAQ.

If you answered all the questions possible about Kirby, you aren't going to retire, right? Because you've already answered over 1,000 questions. You can still do the mailbag and the fanart.

Yours,

Squeaky Bogg

If I were to retire, it'd only be from this false "Guru" status I somehow slipped my way into, don't worry. I don't quit things, especially on the internet. Typically, the place falls apart before I'm willing to leave it. That's right, folks. I'll be a balding, fat, middle aged weirdo who will refuse to relinquish his FTP privileges to the site. The only thing standing between me and that destiny is a few hundred pounds! Better get to that cake.

How come in kirby air ride in city trial u cant put away you wings or bike as mk or dedede?how come in kirby 64 you can inhale under water, shoudn't that just be a automatic death? Why do u hate replacements? Whos the best stone ability holder? If kirby chacters talked in games, who would have the strangest voice? i think gooey. Is gooey playable in kd2 just like kd3? I think ive asked enough questions.

Squeaky Bogg

1) I'm guessing they didn't feel like going out of their way to program those two characters with the ability to walk around. It's a lot of unnecessary effort for not that much pay off.

2) Not necessarily. Kirby is just sucking in, not breathing. Otherwise, the same line of reasoning would require him to choke whenever he sucked up a baddie. He's just creating suction and pulling mass into his vacuous void of an inside. There's no reason that it couldn't be water just as it is normally air. The real reason behind this is needing Kirby to be able to use his trademark skill at all times. There's no Kine or other underwater considerations, and Aqua Star has a lot of swimming in it. They couldn't very well make the player screwed if they lost their ability while in the middle of a level. So, once again, easier game play trumps logic.

3) If you know that I do hate replacements, then you already know the answer to that. It's not like I don't explain myself.

4) Rocky, the big block shaped one that didn't have any type of stupid hat on. Ol' school! If you expected a different answer from me, anyone, you're an idiot!

5) Kirby would have the strangest voice, I'd imagine. Not that it would sound outlandish or anything, but it'd be the most awkward. It would just be weird to see a voice come out of him. If it was child-like, thoughts of him being all tough and serious would throw it off. On the flip side, if it was too masculine, it just would stand out as off mark.

6) No. That's pretty openly available information. Helpers first came in Super Star and Gooey was only playable in Dream Land 3.

7) Agreed, and this was just what was left over after I cut your questioning in half.

I would like to clear something up about the hands: Yes, they are just a cameo in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. However, it should be obvious as to what their origin is. Ever since the first Smash Bros., it was fairly obvious that the Master Hand had his attacks based on Wham Bam Rock. Sakurai exchanges ideas between his two creations fairly often. When Crazy Hand was made, they added some tag team attacks. All they had to do was just translate them over as a boss/mid boss in the game.

Now onto something more important:

1) What was the purpose of Blob? As much as I am interested in this one time character, what was wrong with Chao? They kept her in Dreamland 3, but why get rid of her in 2?

2) Why don't they make a game for the King? After playing as him in Brawl, it would be fairly easy to make such a game. Plus they could revive the Curry and the Sweet Potato.

3) I can see Water similar to how Sakurai has water based attacks work in Brawl: have it push stuff. Then, when your under water, you can have it shoot big bursts of water like in Superstar Ultra.

4) Do you think I made this too lengthy?

- Superyoshi888

Squeaky Bogg

0) Dude, they're hands. That's like saying "A spider using webs? Obviously, they're borrowing from Tarantulus." No, they're just hands. They are going to punch, smash, and clap together. That's really all they can do. They're hands.

1) It's true that the little girl re-appeared in Dream Land 3, but she was not a little girl kept hostage in a sack. I thought I mentioned that every time I mentioned Blob?

2) I don't really see why those items would have any more merit with the King. Truthfully, though, Dedede has been pushed aside and rebranded as a bad guy, again, in recent game history. After missing out on a title and then appearing as the first boss of the game, the King has been getting his gears in motion for, supposedly, his throne of honor as "top bad guy" in the Wii title, if the same storyline is still being used or if what little was said about it had any merit.

It's an odd swap as Meta Knight was gearing up as a villain, a rise that peaked with Revenge of Meta Knight, before he went on to more goodie-goodie roles. Then, when the Ultra remake came out, years after the masked swordsman was crusading for justice, he is shown as the blatant bad guy. As if some half thought out attempt to mask this inconsistency, they pull out Revenge of the King to really make Dedede look sinister. "No, no, new age Kirby fan. The King is the real bad guy, not Meta Knight. Keep loving that blue puff while hating on the blue puffin."

I'd rather play Dedede than Meta Knight. The dude's props are far overdue ever since he and the Crystal Shards crew were cut from being playable years before masked sell out. Still, though, as said in prior mention, his size makes him less playable than other options. This wasn't really a problem in Air Ride or Canvas Curse, but it'd have to be in full consideration in a platformer.

3) Don't, um, all attacks push stuff? Unless the Kirby game had enemies die at one hit, attacks had push back to them as I remember it. Some even knock back and then slay the foe. It just seems an odd concept to have an attack with force behind it when most attacks kill whatever they hit anyways, and they sure aren't going to have mini-bosses or normi-bosses be moved.

1. In Canvas Curse, once Kirby defeats a copy-giving enemy, he absorbs t powers through the air. Is this saying powers enemies have always survive when his body dies? And does that means normally, his stomach absorbs those? And how does he lose his sucking powers? And why can't he normally dash or aborb through his skin?

2.In CC, why do they include you in the story, couldn't they have said a friendly Waddle Dee got the paintbrush?

3. In CC, why can't Kirby move on his own like he can with ball ability?

4. In Squeak Squad, why can Kirby only hold five objects in his stomach's 'vast universe?' And, how does he mix stuff up in there? And how does the result of combination make any sense? And are bubbles immune to his stomach acids or something?

- Tripp Crazy

Squeaky Bogg

1) No, all it means is they needed a way for Kirby to roll into things and acquire an ability. You put way too much thought where it isn't needed. You can pull and stretch a string of thought till it meets your needs, but you just get a long yarn in the end that has no worth in any capacity. Kirby did this same thing in Dream Course. They did this 'cuz he can't roll and inhale in any directable or competent fashion. It's a lot simpler, from several stand points, to just bowl 'em over.

2) Truthfully, that would be ten-thousand fold stupider. How would this Waddle Dee even have third person omniscence to see everything and create those large brush strokes. No, this is a charming element that pulls the player even more into the game than the touch screen and stylus alone. It's an apt metaphor, too, as they really are taking Kirby through his adventure this time.

3) Kirby can move on his own with Ball since he has Ball. In this game, he's just a quadraplegic. That's not an ability; it's a disability.

4) It doesn't really count as one listed item when it's four separate parts, Tripp No-count. That's right, a new name every time.

(a) This is another chalk up to game play. If the player could store everything in Kirby's stomach, the difficulty and fun of the game would greatly drop. Besides, only the animated series made his interior a boundless universe. The games' Kirby has never had this detail explained in the slightest. Besides, this power pocket can be looked at more like what Kirby's hoarding in his cheeks rather than what he's eaten for good. This stuff can still be brought back up at a moment's notice. It's not a bowl of bran flakes away. This second stomach or "powre pocket", could be much smaller than his foodin' pouch.

(b) Kirby has amazing control over his stomach muscles and can shuffle and mix up its contents. That, or he just grabs ahold and kneads his belly fat. He's squishy enough to pull it off. Real answer? Game mechanics! No real explanation behind it.

(c) I think the ability mixing is a "dropped ball" by the game makers. It was originally said that combining abilities was going to make a return, but then all we got were elements attached to Sword and Bomb along with power pick-ups on Wheel and Tornado. I think they intended to have a greater, more diverse system for this originally, but it probably fell apart not too long in. So, mashing up some Sleeps gives you Ghost. Why not? Besides, when two Waddle Doos are caught at the same time, Kirby can wind up with Freeze or any ability available in that game. Does that make sense? Not really, but it's how it goes. And "it" is "game mechanics over practicality".

(d) You see acid in there? I see vacuous space and a star pattern. Nope, no acid there. Technically, there's no proof that Kirby even has digestive acids, a stomach, or even a digestive track. That's all heresay and speculation.

1.I mean Ado is a boy & Aleleine is a girl, but some of my friends says they are the same person. Who's right?

2.Why don't you fight Meta Knight in Meta Knightmare Ultra when you are on Halberd? You did fight him in NiDL's version of Meta Knightmare.

3. If you where asked to test Kirby Wii before anyone else, would you done it?

- Kirby-Gamer123

Squeaky Bogg

1) Your friends are more correct. Ado and Adeleine are the same person, at least by my own and official regards. There's less difference between those two than there is Blade Knight from Adventure to Super Star. However, despite wearing a dress, I believe Ado was pushed by Nintendo of America as being a boy. The States also changed the gender of some member in Team Rocket for the Pokémon mini-movie Legend of Thunder to make his dialog "more appropriate" with his male teammate. Also, does Trini the original Yellow Power Ranger ring a bell? Her and several rangers to follow were heading to different bathrooms just to meet demographic spreads.

2) That happened before 'cuz they were lazy. Meta Knightmare Ultra had a lot more considerations added to change the course of the game. Different parts were blocked off, like entire parts of Great Cave, while some became more challenging, like fighting Heavy Lobster more, for example. They didn't do squat for the first version. This time, they actually put effort behind the work to make it stand out a little more.

3) Do you think this counts as a provocative, challenging, or amusing question? It's like asking a chocolate lover if they want a candy bar. "Dar, no. I'd rather wait, pay for it, and play it with everyone elses. Me smrat."

I watched the Kirby's Avalanche Enemies intro's and I thought:

Why is everybody so mean, arrogant or makes stupid puns in the Kirby Avalanche Enemies Intros? Most of them are supposed to be a nice guy, even Kirby is pretty mean.

- Qtie4U

Squeaky Bogg

The characters are entirely off base as Avanche was a wholly American production. It was an entirely different game, originally, but got turned into a Kirby game on Nintendo systems and a Sonic game on Sega's. It's sorta like how Super Mario Bros. 2 wasn't actually a Mario game. Luigi had a mansion for those that want more recent references. You get more looks at a game by attaching a popular name to it. Just change a few graphics, write in some fillers, and you've just quadrupled the units sold.

So, being America, Kirby had to be "tough" and "in your face". Of course, it was the mid-nineties, so everything was like that anyways. Much like the Kirby game covers or commercials, the puff had to be adorable yet wise cracking. Effectively, this is like a poor dubbing to animé, except in this case there isn't even a loose script to have followed. They just made it up at the top of their heads and ran with it. Of course, there were no characters developed for the Kirby crew at this point in time, so this is how it was assumed people in Dream Land acted. It sure had a great impression on me. I still hold all the voices and dialog as relavent to this day. I'm also bitter and clingy to the past. I don't think the two are related, tho'.

why does parasol make those funny sounds

After that last question, i searched to see if someone asked that, then i found out mine. I clicked get the answer and came up with this html page:

[ giant mess of text foregone ]

you should fix that

- 888chilly

Squeaky Bogg

1) Which noises are you referring to? It makes a lot of sonds across the many games. There's the whooshing sounds from swinging it and the bell ringing when it has stars spinning about it. The whoosh is just a combination from the audible reaction from air resistance of moving the umbrella sharply and its canopy opening. The sound is more subtle in real life, but it's exaggerated in games and cartoons. Everything does that. It shouldn't need to be explained. The ringing is from the twinkling stars, I guess, put around. Look, everything needs a sound affect, alright? What other noise is a suddenly appearing pentagram going to make? Demonic chanting, I guess.

2) You know, the entire point of the Search feature is to look for an answer before you ask it. Anyway, that massive block of HTML you pulled up was the land of submitted questions. That's what happens to them after you ask something. The thing that confuses me is why it was brought up as I thought only HTML pages were scanned through for matching text, and that's not. Anyways, people aren't suppose to ask a question and then immediately search for that same question, so maybe this asinine coincidence broke the system. I've never seen this happen before.

1. In CC, what's with the ink guage, I mean, for a paintbrush?! I mean how does it replenish paint and why does it run out?

2. In a KSSU scene, Meta Knight's eye color changed because of his emotions. How does that make you feel?

3.It was mntion earlier that when Meta Knight uses sword beam, his sword is Galaxia designed. Well that's not true, his sword stays normal, but the beam itself is spikey.

Oh, and by the way tell Fumulover that whatever she's on, up the dosage.

- Tripp Crazy

P.S. Why do you make letters smaller when adding a little comment at the end? Who do you think you are Booker from Animal Crossing?

Squeaky Bogg

1) Never heard of Asian calligraphy, I take it. That stuff is done with a brush. Ink is really just a thinner paint when you get down to it. But, how could you question the running out and replenishing of the Magic Paintbrush? Let's see here, it lays down magical strokes with magical ink that it magically generates. Naturally, it would have to amass more ink before putting down more strokes. That, and game play, folks. That factor has to take root some time.

2) It doesn't make me feel anything. They also have Meta Knight's sword with branches off thet sides in the cut scene. Frankly, something as slight and cliché as eyes changing color is the least of worries when an aspect transcends media from the animated series to the games. And, again, his sword has branches only in the cut scene. Those can barely be taken as canon or intelligently designed.

3) But... that's exactly what is said. And not just once, both times it was called up. I only could see two. First with "MK usually carries the plain looking sword" but "the Galaxia image actually comes out of his regular sword". Galaxia from regular. That sums it up nicely. And again, "even though he has the flat-edged sword... The beam looks exactly like Galaxia" How could you even get the wrong message from that? You obviously had to read one of them to reference that such was even said. I'm reinstating the "Dip Crazy" request.

4) Quite true. That just got you enough points to get back in the black with me.

5) That's to set it apart as a note so it is not confused with the main body of text. It's also in italics or set off in a box, too. It's not like distinguishing two parts of writing is anything new.

What does master green do?

What game is the hardest to clear 100%?

whats the hardest heart star to get in KD3?

seeing kirby WII was confirmed in japan, do u think it will be confirmed in america?

- Squeaky Boggs Taste Good

Minch

1) Hey, you must be new here. Ever hear of this thing we got called Kirbypedia where most all old games' enemies are described by yours truly in full detail? Enemies like Master Green. No shock there. That, or each games page gives a skimmy on what everything is if you don't want the play-by-play. Do you even make an effort to find this stuff out, or is typing in a box and waiting for an answer easier to you than, say, typing less information into Google's box?

2) I haven't played all the Kirby games, so I can't honestly give an opinion on that. I would say that of them all, Dream Course would be top dog since it's the only one I still haven't gotten everything on. All gold medals is impossible, yo.

3) The hardest Heart Star is a toss up with both of those "how many" mini-games. Pitcher Man and Cook Kawasaki are rather easy, but those other ones are a pain. If I didn't have a second person with me, I don't know how I'd keep track of those.

4) Confirming one is pretty much confirming the other, offset by a few months or so, depending. This isn't some far out there, "only a Japanese audience would really get it" thing like, say, Captain Rainbow. It's a Kirby game, and a pretty standard one by "what shouldn't we port terms?"

*) By the way, quit with all the stupid news. I know they are all you. I don't care if you ask a hand full of questions, and would rather have you dump those all at once than clog the system with a bunch of fake identities.

... WHY ARE PEOPLE SO STUPID. SERIOUSLY.

- Diskmaster

Bloon

Is stupidity anything new? I mean, can it honesty still surprise you? I would think that dumbness has run out of new tricks and is now just recycling what it had in the bag. I've stopped asking "why" and try to think of ways to curb the symptoms. It's like the common cold. You know you can't stop it, but at least you can try and mute its effects on you.

I'm dodging the question, however. The straight answer is, "'Cuz then life would be too easy."
