Ask Guru Gobbo #113Hey, everybody, time to pour a nice, tall cool glass of O-Gurus. It doesn't have any vitamin C in it, but it will slightly educate you... Yeah, maybe not. - February 11th, 2009
Those are some cool new Gobbo sprites. Are they on the "faces of Bogg" page? anyways, why was DDD chose to be a penguin? does the creator like penguins, or was it just some random pick. What are the names of all of the star warriors? Do you have any pictures of them? - Some Random Person 1) No, they ain't on the Faces of Squeaky Bogg page, at least not yet. They'd need a place to actually fit in to warrant inclusion, and right now that's nonexistent. I'm not just gonna make a new heading for three little things nor will I be making more, most probably. 2) King Dedede wasn't anything, at first. He was just avian-ish, which really was just him having a beak of some kind. That's really all he has going for him birdly. People previously called 'im a duck. Anyhoo, nothing is random. Random is sin. I think he grew into the penguin proposition due to his proximity to the ice level in Dream Land 3. At least, that's my guess. Really, what type of penguin lives on top of a mountain? Of course, the same can be said for "that wields a hammer?" or "can fly?", "inflate?", "rules the realm?", etc. 3) It is impossible to name all of the Star Warriors since there's way too many. It'd be like naming everyone who lived in the state of Rhode Island ever. Way too many people. Of all the important Star Warriors featured in the animated series, however, that is a more manageable task. There was featured or mentioned Knuckle Joe, his father, Garlude, Dakonyo, Sir Arthur, Sir Falspar, Sir Noisurato, Sir Dragato (most of all who were in the final episodes), and, of course, Kirby and Meta Knight. At least, according to Ivy's list, those are all Star Warriors. I wouldn't know, personally. 4) Since I bitterly and utterly detest anything associated with the phrase "star warrior" and the mired filth it has spawned, no. Most of them, however, can be found in the Anime Guest Characters section. Bimblemiester Miestersnaff, I come to you today with three matters of business: a theory, a question, and an observation. I know your job description only demands you respond to one of them, but still I do hope you find my latest mailing to you amusing, or at least worth mocking. 1. The Theory It might rest your mind some to know my theory is about the theories that have been sent to the Gurus, and not about Meta Knight or some other guy. After reading the theories (some of which are drabble, the rest of which are complete drabble), I've come to conclude that there are two common postulates behind the vast majority of them. Number one, the theorist assumes the Kirby universe, or at the very least its locations such as Pop Star, are real. Whether it is a far-flung past or future, on the opposite side of the Milky Way from us, or in a different galaxy or universe altogether, theorists assume that it's not just a game. Given this, answers along the lines of "because HAL wanted it that way" (basically, the right answers) don't count. They're trying to figure how everything works in-game as if it could happen in real life. Number two, they assume the physics of our universe apply to the Kirby universe. Of course, this is limited, as there has to be some suspension of disbelief to allow the element of fantasy in order for some things to be possible, such as a rock (Rocky) or a cloud (Kracko) being alive. Exactly what is limited remains up for debate. Nevertheless, theorists make their theories from one question: "If the Kirby universe works like our own, how do our scientific properties apply to it?" I've also considered that you already figured out all this yourself. In such case, what can I say, except sorry for wasting your time. 2. The Question Have you ever read, seen, or otherwise experienced something that make you laugh so hard you'd fall off your stool if you're sitting on one? Something that made me laugh like that recently was Brian Clevinger's (author of 8-Bit Theatre) essay on cat toys (forgoing the link because the essay contains some very harsh words). 3. The Observation Assuming Pop Star is truly star-shaped, this brings up an interesting, or at least amusing, point. No matter how large the planet is, there are still at least five points on the planet where the world seems to suddenly slope up, and when you step over onto the slope, it'll be just like you're standing on the slope from the perspective of your original location even though you're on completely normal ground. It boggles the mind, doesn't it? And even if these points are curved instead of a sudden change in angle, it still doesn't change the fact you see the world sloping up and towering over your head at some point. - Supercomputer276 1) In a word, yes. To them doing that, to it probably being said before, and to that being my cheese. It's pretty hard to try and make science work in a world that is literally a star shaped star. 2) Clevinger can be funny? That about made me fall out of my stool. Anyhoo, I have been made to fall out of my chair before. I can't quite remember what it was, but it was something on-line. And then there's the good ol' lung emptier of Aqua Man sending out fish-communication waves across and down the ocean, past sharks, whales, lions (not the sea variety), a sun, clouds, and birds over a house on the bottom of the ocean which has a man cutting his yard on a riding lawnmower, despite it being the sea floor, and a school of fish swimming by and coughing in the gaseous exhaust despite being underwater and none of it making sense. But that's how all of Paradon worked, not that anyone will ever know. 3) The pentagram problem is easily addressed by a 18th centurary approach: Pop Star is flat. If you ever look, all of the action takes place on one face of the world, generally in the center or at least away from the edges of the cusps. As goes with flat worlds, the gravity is downward, not inward, meaning that you couldn't really stand at any of those trouble angles; you'd just fall off. At least, that's how it appears to be from all maps and showings of Pop Star. Who knows what may be on the other side? A crazy, new world full of adventure, perhaps? Well, don't get any ideas. That's been my fanon idea for years now. IN the comercial for kssu kirby has a tong. and i didn't know he did . did they put it just becuase everything else has a tong? - Irvin Kirby has always had a tongue. It's been there, inside his mouth, all along. You can see it a good few pictures, typically of him inhaling. While I wasn't able to find any images of him showing off his licker in Dream Land 1 (but I didn't look that hard), there is a fine display of it in the title graphic for Adventure, Kirby's second game. That's about as close to always as you can get right there, and I know it's only gotten shown more times after that. Why, it's also in the title graphic for Super Star, the instruction booklet for Dream Land 2, Nightmare in Dream Land, and probably every other manual as well. The fact that you never noticed the tongue before is quite surprising. Hello Squeaky. How ya doin'? Enough formalities, time for the questions. 1. Kirby (and the rest of our species for that matter) are supposedly lighter than air, suposedly explaining our flight capabilities. But then, how would we walk around on the ground, not to mention swim, if we really were that dense. We should be floating around like balloons without strings. 2. Why can we swim underwater with, or without a scuba mask, but our Waddling brethren drown if they try to take a dip? (Exluding the magical gold varity for Squeak Squad) 3. Why are Shotzos, Gordos and Blatzers immune to everything we can throw at them? Including Mike, Paint, Cook, and even Crash. The only recorded destruction of their kind was via a Hyper Sweet, but they seem to have adapted to be immune to that as well. 4. If the Kirbster decided to eat you for some reason(Sakuri forbid) what ability would he get? 5. Would you be open to being a helper in KCC? and if so, what ability would you weild, Mace, Fighter, or somthing else? - Nightmare Kirbo 1) True as that is, you forget that Kirby wears shoes (at least in my heavily defended take on things) or is full of food. Take your pick. This makes him more like a hot air balloon. Even when properly inflated, he still needs some type of propulsion to get off the ground and just drifts through the sky. Also, that's a fun quote for the Smash Bros. data entry. I really wouldn't pin much merit to it. Anyways, as for swimming, that's not water, it's alcohol! 2) Kirby is versatile. He's brave and well off, training in many feats and skills. Just look at how he saves the day again and again through a plethora of skills. Waddle Dee, on the other hand, can't swim. Pretty easy. 3) For pulling out so much knowledge, you sure miss a lot of the proper names. It's true that Gordo, Shotzo, and Blatzy are immune to all forms of destruction nowadays, but they could be felled back in the glory days. The mike, Invincible Candy, or the unnamed magical Kirby annihilator replica (UMKAR) could take them all out in Dream Land 1, as mentioned previously. Anyhoo, those were exceptions that were not really intended to occur. Gordo needed to be able to be defeated for the Castle Dedede final boss run pre-boss level door access, but such a contingency wasn't needed in later games. With this buggy loophole plugged, the invincibles were back to being truly indestructible, no questions asked, as they were intended to be. 4) Indigestion! 5) Kirby Cosmic Chaos is traditionally abbreviated KCCh to set it apart from Kirby Canvas Curse, which carries the same three letters. It would be very weird to think about Squeaky Bogg being in a different fan game, but, I have to admit, the 3D model would be a breeze. While I wouldn't support such an action as lame fan characters have been nicely kept out of Cosmic Chaos and only series inspired and in-line ones have (good job, CC Crew), Bogg could easily be given Mace. Hooray! Good to see you back in action! The cookies were getting old with no one to eat them. Anyways, just a couple of questions for curiousity. In the anime or games, are any of the characters ever given like a hypothetical birthday or anything of the sort? I know Sakurai quit HAL years ago, but I'm curious if he ever plays a part anymore in any creation of the kirby games when need be. - Leint 0) Mmm, cookies. I'm gonna have to try and whip up a batch of those before Fat Tuesday. Hopefully not on Fat Tuesday, else I'll really make it live up to the name. 1) I know for certain that Kirby is given a birth-like day to celebrate the anniversary of him crashing down to Pop Star, but that day is a day and not any day in particular. They didn't use typical months and dates to represent anything in the series that I know of. Then again, being Japanese, they don't traditionally celebrate birthdays and just have one day for boys and another for girls. Traditionally. I think that's been changing as of late. 2) Sakurai didn't play a role in the last few games that were developed while he was working for the company, so, no, he didn't. Outside of Brawl, he didn't mettle with his creation in the slightest. That's why the games have tanked into a mire of repetition after he left: no good, original input. where does meta knight get funding for the halbred project i mean theres no factories or anything (other than that time dedede enslaved popstar that one time in the anime) where does the metal and weapons come from i doubt nightmare would supply - Zlf2009 NINE Thats Right New Year New Name What? A nine? I'm confused and don't remember telling you to beat it. Meh. What do I care? I'm getting tired of scanning for you IP address anyways. The metal comes from iron mines, obviously. Where the labor came from is anyone's guess. Meta Knight's a pretty big name. Maybe he was rounding up a secret workforce to construct things over a very long period of time. I don't really see why Nightmare would be suspected of giving the goods. "Hey, guy who hates me, want to help me, your enemy, construct a weapon of your destruction?" Sense abound! How much inspiration for Kirby did you think came from the Japan only title, Gimmick!, on Famicom? - Prophallus I never thought any inspiration came from it as I never knew the game even existed! Anyhoo, I catch your meaning behind it (once I googled the game, that is). It has the simplistic shapes, the blocks with stars in them, and cute little guy who throws stars. It's down right pretty eerie to think. But, now, you also have to remember that it is Japan. While that cutesy stuff all tends to look the same over here, they have waves of it across the Pacific, each with their own distinctions. It's like how horses all look the same to me, but a horse handler would easily be able to pick out differences among a corral of the same lookers. Throwing stars is one of the next best graphical updates to an attack after throwing balls or squares, and, keeping with the adorability of the game and maybe even the storyline (only watched a video), it probably syncs up. out of all the people you have asked questions for, which do you remember most. What is the most creative thing in the kirby games??? - 888chilly 1) The questioners I remember most are the good ones who pose thought provoking and well written ones. Sure, you'd think someone with poor grammar and all caps would stick out, but concise writing trumps all in the end. I'd say Sapphy is king of that hill, tho', due to volume and back-and-forthness. Sure, a bloke may come by and say some wise words, but a lot of time they are hollow and don't really have much work on my end that needs worked on. S'Kirby, on the other hand, would challenge and not just with, "Dar, yer wrongz." 2) The most creative thing in the Kirby games is the basic manner of attack founded at day one: using enemies as ammo. While they seem to try and make the games more about copied abilities from the enemies, throwing them at each other created a good level of strategy. If an enemy was missed or defeated with an air pellet, that could mean another more dangerous enemy now had to be trumped in another manner. It wasn't like most games, or how they are now, where the player can just plow through with infinite attacks. The patience factor really weighed in heavy with boss battles. Even Whispy is more likely to catch the player off guard after an extended battle than he is after five seconds when faced with Hammer. Hi Bimblsnaff...Miss me? What does reporting a user on the gallery do? Just asking. why are like none of my pictures being accepted?? - Airride_Master 1) Reporting a user, comment, or anything simply sends a message to all the gallery administrators to let them know there is a note worthy problem. They then delete or rectify the source if action is seen as needed. 2) I don't know if that is still a problem you're having. I'm looking at things, and I see pictures of yours uploaded. Nothing is in the queque to be approved, so I can only assume your pictures have been deleted by another moderator or they wound up getting through after all.
Repeat Response: Yeeep, things are back swingin'. I'm already be asked more drole Q's like "How are Kirby, Meta Knight, or the newest glory hog Galacta Knight related?" 'Cuz folks just can't be told enough.
