Review: Burn/Cutter

Ability : Burn/Cutter

Title : Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Reviewer : Faital Ryuu

The Flame Sword ability in Kirby 64 is acquired by combining Cutter with Burning. Once Kirby gets the Flame Sword ability, Kirby can either swing it at foes or lift it above his head and throw it in a straight line.

When you press the A button for the first time, Kirby takes out the Flame Sword. Kirby keeps it behind him while it isn't in use. Pressing Up will make Kirby lift it over his head. Pressing Down makes it go back on the ground. This is important as anything that touches the sword takes damage. Enemies are unable to attack from behind while the sword is down and anything that comes from above takes damage while the sword is up.

The Flame Sword has two attacks. While the Flame Sword is down, it can be used as a long-reach melee weapon. This is good news for those who prefer close-range attacks as long-reach is always a must for fighters. When the Flame Sword is held up, it can be a projectile. It's main disadvantage is that you'll have to take out a new sword and press Up again to hold it up, but its effects as a projectile more than make up for that.

The Flame Sword ability is a good ability that fits many playing styles. Like most abilities, it's pretty user-friendly, so it isn't very hard to use.
