Kirby's Dream Land 2
Gooey first appears in Kirby's Dream Land 2 where he is rescued from a sack after defeating Mini-bosses like the Animal Friends. He is only encountered at times when the same friend held in the sack is already paired with Kirby. When approached, Gooey will give Kirby an additional life pellet and vanish. Unlike his later appearances, his size is much larger in order to make him fill the bag completely.
Kirby's Dream Land 3
The blob returns in Kirby's Dream Land 3 where he now fights along side Kirby, who can summon him like Helpers in Kirby Super Star. To bring Gooey into play, the "A" button is used. Kirby sacrifices one of his life pellets and reduces his maximum health from five to four pellets. Gooey will be automatically controlled by the computer or can be used by a second player. Gooey can be inhaled by Kirby if he gets too close to the suction. If Kirby swallows Gooey, the health lost in summoning him will be returned.
Gooey cannot be summoned when competing in the Boss Butch.
Appearance
Gooey is a dark blue blob with a round, slight egg-shape. He has no limbs, nubs, feet, or other protrusions on his body, although he is able to grow limbs if needed at his own will (such as when he uses Parasol). His face has two white googly eyes that stare off into space with black pupils. A dopey grin is always worn on his face. A long, stretchy, red tongue is kept in his mouth.
During the final battle against Dark Matter in Dream Land 3, Gooey assumes a shape similar to Dark Matter's form, gaining a ring of yellow nubs around his back. He is still colored blue and possesses his face instead of the single, red eye. While it never is seen during game play, a pastel picture shows Gooey's tongue as being forked when in this mode. Background
Gooey was created from the same make as Dark Matter, the ultimate evil and generally the villain of games in the series. Despite this grim origin, he has a good heart.
Personality
Little is known about Gooey, but his docile demeanor gives him the appearance of a simpleton. It is known that he is not evil, despite being made of the same make as Dark Matter.
Abilities
Gooey behaves identically to Kirby in controls. He can inflate, fly, slide, ride pets, spit out air pellets and enemies, and copy and use abilities. These abilities are used just like Kirby's and are not altered in any way.
The principle way the two differ is that rather than inhaling things, Gooey snatches them into his mouth with a long, sticky tongue. While this prevents him from eating more than one object at a time (and thus stops him from ever spitting out a double star), it allows him to eat things even when Kirby cannot. Such as regular enemies immune to being inhaled, like Scarfy, or even things underwater do not stop Gooey's tongue.
If Gooey is unaccounted for or left behind in a scene, he will Space Jump to Kirby's current location. He passes through all obstacles and makes a straight line toward Kirby before reappearing. (Helpers in Kirby Super Star can do the same.)
If Gooey no longer wishes to be in play, he can selfdestruct upon rapid pressing of the "A" button. This does not serve as a bomb to damage enemies and only takes the ally out of play. Kirby's maximum health returns to five.
In the final battle against Dark Matter in Dream Land 3, when Kirby is wielding the Love-Love Stick and Gooey is in mock-Dark Matter mode, he spits out stars as opposed to morphing heart-stars.
Relationships
Gooey is friends with Kirby, apparently. They fight alone side each other in Kirby's Dream Land 3 and are seen fishing together in the game's opening sequence.
While Gooey is part of Dark Matter, the two have nothing else in common other than their makeup.
The younger sister of Gooey, named Blob, appears in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and replaces Chao in the overseas versions of the game.
