Dark Mind
First Game: Kirby & the Amazing Mirror
Species: Unknown
Gender: None
Alignment: Evil
Category:Boss, Final Boss

One of the boss characters that Kirby must fight in his game series. It is an evil force manifested in the Mirror World.

Appearance

Dark Mind is a wicked, human-esque torso whose body consists of a swirling, flame color sphere with an eye aligned vertically in the center. Several metal protrusions emerge from around this base with the two largest, bent spikes positioned near where shoulders would be, another set from the sides, one from the bottom, and two at the side of it. The body is wrapped in a dark, tattered cloak. Two six-sided mirrors and a pair of long clawed hands float by it. A skeletal armored head with four horns and a golden crest sits at the top.

Games

Dark Mind is fought in the Dimension Mirror in a series of battles following the fight with Dark Meta Knight. The Master ability is given when Kirby enters the battle.

Dark Mind is faced in a series of four battles in its first, human form. In between each, there is a short level with power ups to refuel the player. Each time battled, more attacks are displayed by the boss. Also, the terrain changes. First, it is a flat, rocky field, next a castle with high ledges on the sides, then with two pools of water, and lastly frozen ground.

Dark Mind hovers off the ground and soars or teleports to different positions. It blinks to several locations before settling on one to stay. Initially, it attacks by firing out a blitz of empty stars from its central eye. This star blast attack changes by Dark Mind moving slightly while executing the attack to dropping a shower of stars while dashing across the screen.

The stars can be inhaled and come in many colors, each offering a different ability. At first, they are all red and off Fire, but blue for Ice, purple for Spark, and green for Mix are added in order to the possibilities.

The orbiting mirrors block potential attacks from reaching the vulnerable core, but a piercing, such as a double star bullet or the spinning dash from Master, can penetrate this defense. The mirrors can be spun about at a fast pace and travel both further out and faster as it is fought more times.

If a large orb, blue is dropped in the center of the field, it is a bomb that inflicts damage throughout the entire screen. Attacking it destroys it safely before any harm can be caused.

Dark Mind's Second Form

After defeating Dark Mind four times, it explodes rather than cracking into jagged fragments. The player is then warped to a bridge stretching through a red, abysmal expanse and must battle the second form, a giant molten sphere stripped of its previous parts and wears, instead, a fiery aura. If the Master ability is lost at this point, Shadow Kirby appears to return it after some time.

Dark Mind mostly floats in the upper portion of the screen and shifts side to side. It does occasionally drop to the bottom and slide across with the mirrors circling around it. The surfaces can also be woven about the boss in a wide degree of patterns while it is hovering up top. The mirrors can, at times, release a few of several possible ability holding enemies, including Hot Head, Laser Ball, Waddle Doo, Pengy, Wheelie, Foley, and Sir Kibble.

A laser is fired from its eye that is reflected about the screen against the mirrors. They are angled in the corners to direct it at the player. When its life meter is lower, a single, wider beam is directed straight into the floor. The same explosive orb dropped in its previous form also appears in this version. Its most unique tactic is to flip the screen upside down. Controls remain the same, but the change in orientation makes playing more difficult.

After this form is defeated, Dark Mind has a final and third form. The sphere shrinks to a diminutive size and flies off. Kirby chases it on his Warp Star. A top view shooter battle follows where stars are fired by Kirby and Dark Mind. It mostly stays at the top of the screen, swaying left and right, but charges forward occasionally. It attacks in violent sprays, steady streams, small sets, or single shots. After the life meter is drained, the credits roll and a count of how many additional shots hit is kept.
