| English Name: | Spicy Food |
| Japanese Name: | カレーライス Karee Raisu Curry and Rice |
| First Game: | Kirby's Dream Land |
| Type: | Power Up |
Spicy Food, along with the Mint Leaf, is an item from first Kirby game and also sometimes considered an early precursor to Copy Abilities.
The name was originally "Curry Rice", only changed to "Spicy Food" in the United States. This was likely undertaken as it was felt Americans would not be as familiar with curry than in other parts of the world.
Games
Kirby's Dream Land
After chomping down a plate of this food, Kirby gains the ability to spit out fireballs in place of his inhalation. These expelled flames travel much like an air pellet in distance and speed and can destroy enemies and blocks. This burning rampage only lasts for a short period of time, or it ends immediately if Kirby touches any water.
The rice is a rare find in the game, and Kirby only has a couple of chances to get a plate. While it only appears in one Kirby game, the legacy of the Spicy Food is seen in the abilities of the games that follow, such as in Fire and Burning where Kirby spews out flames.
Anime
The only other place this rare ability appears is in the anime series. In the episode, Kirby swallows a plate of super-hot curry and begins breathing fire uncontrollably, leading other characters to believe he's gained the Fire ability. But as it's pointed out, he doesn't have the usual hat that accompanies it, so it's not an actual copy.
