A boss that Kirby must fight in his game series.

Acro is a large killer whale. While normally peaceful, she is often victim to Dark Matter, who possesses her and causes her to become violent towards Kirby.

As with real orcas, Acro is mostly shiny black with a white underside and a white patches behind her eyes and dorsal fin. She also has a somewhat star-shaped patch of lighter skin on her nose.

While Acro is usually fought underwater, like Kine, she appears to have the ability to move out of water just fine.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Acro is found at the end of the third level, Ripple Field. She is fought in two phases as many of the game's bosses are.

The first takes place in a small room suspended above a pool of water. She charges at the player, starting on her belly but shortly walking on her tail before dropping down again, and wiggles forward until crashing into the wall. A rock is loosened which can be used as ammo against her. She frees her nose, turns about, and repeats the process. This lasts while her life bar is over half full. Once enough damage is supplied, she breaks the floor and drops into the water below.

The water is a wider and deeper battlefield than the higher chamber just left from. Underwater, Acro swims backwards and spits various objects at the player. This includes skulls which fly straight forward, baby orca which weave up and down, and anchors which sink to the floor and roll. When she reaches near the wall, she turns around and rams into it. This drops a rain of rocks from above. All of the objects outside of the anchor can be shot back at her either using the bubble gun or an underwater acquisition like Kine's inhale or Gooey's tongue.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Acro is the boss of Aqua Star, the third world. She is fought, again, in a two part process. First, she is found in a wide open, underwater cavern. Here, she swims backwards through the room and spits objects at Kirby. This includes Gordo that bounce along the floor, Fishbone which weave up and down, and skulls that spin straight forward. Since Kirby can inhale underwater in this game, all but the Gordo can be used against her. When she reaches the end of the scene, she springs forward to attack. This can be a full flip over where she smash flat on the ground. She can also swim into the foreground and background in a loop. Eventually she turns upward and crashes down in a nosedive. Both of these knock a rock to each side of her. This can also be inhaled. Once her life bar is depleted, she slowly crashes into the floor, and it breaks away.

The player is then ushered up into a thin tunnel above, and Acro returns with full life. Here, she swims vertically and spits out only Pedo. Along the way, many enemies can be found floating carelessly, including Flopper, Blowfish, and Squibby. Every while, Acro speeds forward in a spinning drive up past the top of the screen. She can be seen swimming back down in the background and shortly resumes the battle.

Trivia

  • Orcas are actually the largest species of dolphin, rather than whales.
  • You can tell Acro is female because the fin is short. Male orca have very tall fins.
