Yes, he's a penguin. With the exception of the design change, Dedede in the anime is just like Dedede in the games.

And some birds eat other birds you know. Though penguins are supposed to eat only fish and stuff... Originally Dedede likes birds but not necessarily on his plate. (He actually seems to know a lot about em too. XD) I wouldn't be surprised if the english version was responsible for that line about only eating them.

2. In the show does King DDD have feathers? (he`s my fav character in the show and games, but mostly in the show ^_^)
