This one's also new to
the Kirby series, and just might propel its way to the
list of Kirby's "deadly" abilities on name alone...
Missile Kirby!
New, yes. It's debut is in the game,
Kirby & The Amazing
Mirror/Hoshi no Kirby: Great Labyrinth of the Mirror.
Missile comes from a wandering enemy known as Tokon
who is slow of foot, but fleet of flight... and a bit
explosive. You also get it from an airplane miniboss
named Air Roster/Bombar. How it works is a bit... odd.
Missile Kirby wears a gold helmet with a red stripe,
and transforms into a living, deadly projectile when
this is used. He flies through the air, breaking
through blocks, and is able to destroy floors with
this. It doesn't end until Kirby touches an enemy...
at which point, the missile EXPLODES, and Kirby
reverts to normal until the next time you press the
button. No, it's not one-shot, but it can be tough to
control. However, it has a lot of attack power, able
to deal heavy damage to bosses of all sizes...
probably owns Kracko (anything that propels Kirby
(Hi-Jump, Missile, Tornado) owns him).
I've seen people complain about the power's mechanics, but
it's all in the name of balance. If Missile went straight
through things like Tornado, it'd be overpowered. And if it
ended prematurely, it'd be easy to lose, since it might end
JUST before it'd blow up an enemy. Missile is basically a
lateral and controllable Hi-Jump with explosive effects. I
personally would liken it more to Jet than Hi-Jump, but I
understand the similarity.
It can't quite beat
Hi-Jump's appeal, but it's VERY close. 8.5/10 for Missile
Kirby. With the possibility of a new Kirby animé looming in
Japan, I hope they use this one somewhere. It's a real
blast!
