Whispy Woods is a recurring character and ally of Kirby in his anime series. He is the ruler of Whispy Wood’s Forest, located a short distance from the village.

Appearance

Whispy’s look is practically identical to the game version. A medium-sized apple tree with light brown bark and a deep green canopy filled with delicious apples. His face, which can be hidden to make him look like any other tree, has two holes for his eyes and one for the mouth, and a pointed branch for a nose.

Background and Personality

Whispy Woods is the ruler and guardian of a huge, maze-like forest. His exact age isn’t known, but he’s certainly been around for several decades, if not at least a century. He isn’t the biggest or tallest tree in the forest though, but apparently has other special powers that make him the ruler, such as his ability to be reborn from a single one of his 'Life Apples', and regenerate an entire forest on his own.

Like in the games, Whispy can attack by dropping masses of apples to bury a foe, or by using his roots. In this version his roots are much longer and more versatile, and can be used to grab things. He also does not attack using puffs of air, however.

Whispy can be extremely aggressive when it comes to trespassers and anyone who he thinks is trying to harm his kingdom. Even when dealing with seemingly innocent children, ‘mercy’ isn’t a concept he adheres to. To those lucky enough to be considered his friends, he is very generous and gladly gives out tasty apples. He can also be very stubborn though, and it can be next to impossible for anyone to convince him of something once he believes otherwise.

Relationships

When Whispy first met Kirby and the other kids, he had been convinced beforehand that they were actually there to harm his forest and so he attacked them. Left helpless after dropping all his apples, Dedede took the opportunity to cut him and the rest of his forest down. But thanks to Kirby, one of Whispy’s apples survived and he and the rest of the forest were reborn. Whispy has been Kirby’s ally ever since.

Whispy has a deep hatred for Dedede and Escargon, naturally, as they’re constantly plotting new ways to chop down his forest so Dedede can build his Royal Country Club. Whispy even went so far once as to try and ensure they died along with him in an approaching forest fire.

Whispy also once fell in love with a little flower that had grown at his base that Fumu named Lovely. It was stolen by Dedede and transformed into a demon beast with the goal that she would drain all of Whispy’s life energy. Whispy couldn’t bring himself to fight back, so it was Kirby who landed the final blow. Lovely perished, but ever since then a patch of the same type of flowers has bloomed all around Whispy.

He also has an old friend- 600 years old- called Acore who lives by a waterfall in the Eastern Forest. Acore spends most of his time sleeping. It isn’t really explained how they can communicate or know each other at all considering neither can move and go see the other!
