| Players: | 1 - 4 |
| Type: | Timing Mini-Game |
Wave Ride is a timing mini-game where the player tries to outrace the others by timing speed boosts against waves. The cream puffs surf across water on Warp Stars and glide up waves. There are four players, with the additional roles filled by the CPU if not a human. There are three levels of difficulty which increase the AI used by the computer. The contest only earns a rank among the four and does not accomplish points, extra lives, or bonus.
The player can only control when to jump by pressing the button. Jumping can raise their position onto waves as well as launch them off. Pressing the button near the crest of a wave offers a speed boost. The waves are often positioned so that the player can chain higher up and faster through a series of waves.
The game is similar to Air Grind found in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.
