| English Name: | Switch |
| Japanese Name: | スイッチ Suicchi Switch |
| First Game: | Kirby's Adventure |
| Type: | Special |
An object found in Kirby games that is used to activate something special. They come in large and small sizes.
Switches are rounded headed buttons with a star on top and a golden base. They function to open the way for Kirby, either to progress through the stage or to access a secret, restricted area.
Switches first appeared in Kirby's Adventure where they would open up blocked areas on the map, allowing Kirby to reach Mini-Games or other special areas.
They reappeared in Kirby Super Star alongside a smaller version. The larger switches still opened up hidden pathways to secret levels. Smaller switches would open a door on the screen for a short amount of time or make things appear. For example, in the case of the Great Cave Offensive, switches caused a Maxim Tomato to drop in the rest area.
This dual nature of the switch continued in future Kirby games. In Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, they open doors back to the Rainbow Route and other stages.
Some switches only stay depressed so long as something is on top of it, requiring coordination with a helper or a long range power in order to pass through.
