A Star Piece is a small, rounded star with a pair of eyes that can be collected by Kirby. Typically, they are pieces to a 1UP and collecting enough of them earns an extra life. This amount varies between titles.

Games
Kirby's Dream Land 2
Seven pieces are needed to assemble an extra life. They can be found strewn across levels and in the Mini-Games after a Boss is defeated. In these, all twenty need to be collected to earn a perfect score.
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Thirty pieces are needed to assemble an extra life. In the goal game at the end of each stage, two larger versions of the star piece appear, being the equivalent of three and five regular star pieces.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
Thirty pieces are needed to earn an extra life; however, depending on the color, more than one count could be earned. Yellow are worth one, green are worth three, red are worth five, and blue are worth ten. Blue stars only appear where a Crystal Shard had been collected and replace it.
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble
There are multiple colors of Star Pieces. Each needs a certain number collected for a prize.
Yellow Star Pieces need fifty collected to earn a 1UP. They can be found throughout the game.
Blue Star Pieces appear in sets of four, found by flipping over four enemies at once. Collecting all of them before they vanish earns an extra life.
Red Star Pieces are brought out upon special events, normally landing into a ? Hole. Collecting all seven that appear before the time expires earns an extra life.
