Game Play and Features

Most of the game play in Kirby Super Star Ultra is similar to that of the original version, with copy abilities, health bars, and helpers being featured.

Characters other than Kirby are playable in some of the new sub-games; as such, these sub-games offer a slightly different style of game play.

See the Kirbypedia article on Kirby Super Star for more information.

Sub-Games

All of the sub-games from Kirby Super Star make a return. However, the game contains seven new sub-games, bringing the total to fifteen:

Kirby Card Swipe

This is one of the three new mini-games that make use of the touch screen. This is a reflex mini-game in which the player(s) must choose a card that matches the one shown on the top screen.

Kirby on the Draw

This is one of the three new mini-games that make use of the touch screen. It's a western-style shooting game where the objective is to shoot the targets that appear quickly and collect as many points as possible.

Snack Tracks

This is one of the three new mini-games that make use of the touch screen. In this game, the participants sit in front of conveyor belts that bring food to them. However, they also occasionally bring worms, rocks, or bombs, which must be tapped to be removed.

Revenge of the King

Just as Spring Breeze is a modified remake of Kirby's Dream Land, Revenge of the King is a remake of the Extra Game of Kirby's Dream Land. In this game, King Dedede wants revenge for having been defeated by Kirby in Spring Breeze. The stages are made more difficult, as are most enemies.

Meta Knightmare Ultra

Similar to Meta Knightmare in Nightmare in Dream Land, the objective is to play through the whole game (although abbreviated somewhat) as Meta Knight. The game makes use of the touch screen for special skills, such as a healing ability and a powerful screen-sweeping tornado. These abilities can be used by spending points that are acquired by defeating enemies. This sub-game has a new final boss at the end in place of Marx.

Helper to Hero

This sub-game is similar to the Arena. However, instead of facing all of the game's bosses as Kirby, the player faces 13 of the game's bosses as one of the 20 different helpers. This sub-game also contains a new boss at the very end.

The True Arena

The final and most difficult game of Kirby Super Star Ultra. This arena features nine bosses from the three newly added sub-games, and another new final boss as the last challenge.

Remake Differences

In addition to new content and graphical improvements that are typical of a remake, some aspects of the original game have been altered slightly.

All cut scenes are now in 3D and can be viewed in a "Theater" section on the game selection screen.

The enemy (and helper) Capsule J is now replaced with the functionally similar but visually different Capsule J2. The helper T.A.C. can now charge up the sneaky hand attack. The Hammer ability now uses the ability hat from Nightmare in Dream Land. Kirby's body color changes to green when he obtains the Plasma ability and white when he gains the Mirror ability.

The game's multi player is different as well. Two people can play Spring Breeze and any of the mini-games with only one game (and two DS consoles). However, using multi player to play any other sub-games requires two separate copies of the game.
