Story
Kirby needs to stack stars. With the help of his three friends, Rick, Kine, and Coo, he can do it.
Game Play
The game consists of a tall field that may have various blocks lining the bottom. A pair of attached blocks is dropped from the top of the screen and makes its way down to the bottom. This is when the player rotates and moves the block to the orientation they want it at.
The goal of the game is to sandwich blocks between two like Friend Blocks and stack the resulting stars. As blocks are removed from the field, any above them will fall downward, giving the possibility of another reaction. In this way, chains of pairings can be performed. As more are completed, bonus Stars fall onto the field and can initiate further chains.
Every two or three turns, the floor of the playing field will raise by one row of blocks. If the middle of the top row becomes filled, the space where new blocks first drop down, the game ends.
There are five levels of difficulty for the game modes, each increasing the speed at which the game moves: Normal, Hard, Very Hard!, and Super Hard. An Insane option becomes available after completing certain tasks, such as getting 1,000 or more stars are stacked in Challenge mode or completing the four previous modes in Round Clear.
Game Modes
Round Clear
King Dedede challenges Kirby to stack stars through four different. For every star stacked, his hit points are reduced. Dropping him to zero allows Kirby to progress to the next stage. The difficulty ranges have a total of 8, 16, 16, 16, and 50 stages in them, respectively. Each stage has a predetermined set up of blocks at the beginning and a set progression. Every five stages, an intermission occurs with the Animal Friends playing and such. Every level begins with a taunt from the King and ends with a fun picture of Kirby and his friends.
Versus
Two players square off in a challenge of stacking and chaining. Kirby, the first player, battles against Waddle Dee, the second player. By pulling off bigger chains, the opponent's floor raises. The amount it can raise is capped by the difficulty level selected. Filling up their playing field first leads to victory.
Challenge
The player stacks stars for as long as possible. There is no time limit, and the game goes on until the center of the top row is blocked. A record of the stars stacked is kept. As the game progresses, the pace of play increases.
Time Attack
A three minute time limit is set, and the player has to see how many stars can be stacked within that time. It is simply a race against the clock to see how fast one can act.
