Appearance
Kaboola is a large blimp. It has two rudders on its back and a cannon resembling a Shotzo below it. Sometimes, a cannon is mounted on the other side as well. A hexagon marking is on each side of the balloon with stripes running lengthwise.
Games
Kirby's Dream Land
Kaboola was the first boss in the game series to be battled with a special item. Before the encounter, Kirby must pick up a super powered Sweet Potato (Mint Leaf) that does not expire after the normal time limit. It is used to fly and fire air pellets for as long as Kirby needs to finish off the boss.
Kaboola is found at the end of the Float Islands. After a short level ending with the Sweet Potato, Kirby takes to the sky to fight the blimp. It flies up and down, rolling over constantly, at the right side of the screen and fires shots. These can either be single cannon balls or a triple shot, with one forward and two diagonally angled. Occasionally, Kaboola spins rapidly and plunges forward to ram Kirby for damage.
Unlike with other bosses, there is no ammo supplied or stars to return fire with. Kirby only has to keep pelting the blimp with air pellets until it is defeated. It takes thirty shots to accomplish this.
In Extra Game, Kaboola's attacks are made more aggressive and more frequently.
Kirby's Block Ball
Kaboola is fought at the end of the ninth level. Here, it is double mounted with cannons and flies back and forth through the stage while firing out cannon balls in various direction.
Trivia
In the Dream Land game manual, Kaboola is referred to with feminine pronouns, suggesting the blimp is a female. However, this is never supported in any game or other source.
