Gamesplay
While Kirby cannot attack, slow, or interact with Dedede, he can still encounter enemies and acquire copy abilities like Jet and Wing to assist him through the race.
Grand Prix
Kirby races against the King to collect as much food as possible. All three courses are played in succession. For each piece of food collected, thirty points are added to the final score. A Maxim Tomato is worth three times as much. Time is not important to the score, but racing faster ensures getting the food.
Time Attack
This allows the player to run through individual courses to practice for the main race. The attempts are timed, and neither the food or King Dedede are present. If the course is replayed and a new best time was scored previously, the player's previous movements are recorded by a ghostly star. The time must be under two minutes and no other courses can be ran in between for the previous attempt to remain.
Courses
- Pumpkin Playground
- A straight, outdoor course without much obstacles.
- Maize Hall
- A rocky raceway that sinks underground and splits into two paths.
- Onion Garden
- A winding, cloudy path filled with twists and turns that loops around to the start.
Kirby Super Star Ultra
In the remake, a second player, portrayed by the yellow Keeby, can join in the races.
