Games
Coo first appeared alongside the two other original Animal Friends in Kirby's Dream Land 2. The owl served to carry Kirby through harsh winds. He then appeared as one of three possible Friend Blocks in the puzzle game, Kirby's Star Stacker. In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Coo came back to action where his mastery of the air was still undisputed.
Coo makes a cameo in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards as a statue carved from the combination of the Stone and Cutter abilities.
Appearance
Coo is a grayish purple colored owl. He has a white, spotted belly and black tips to his wings. His crest rises into a mess of spiky feathers. His eyes are outlined in black, triangular markings which give him a more intense appearance than the other Animal Friends. A tiny, yellow beak is set between them.
Background
Coo first crossed paths with Kirby when Dark Matter originally attacked. Trapped by mini-bosses, he gladly returns the favor of being freed.
Personality
Coo is level headed with a bit more of a spark. The owl generally is not smiling, unlike the rest of the game's characters, and carries himself with a bit more of a fierce edge. Unlike the other Animal Friends, he is a loner and has no significant other, family member, or personal friend.
Abilities
Kirby's Dream Land 2
Coo rules the air. When carrying Kirby, he allows him to both fly and inhale at the same time. The owl is also a better flyer than the creme puff, having better control and stability, not drifting back down as fast. Coo can also push against strong winds that normally could not be bested. Kirby's Copy Abilities are changed into the following when paired with the owl:
- Burning: Angled Fireball
- Cutter: Triple Cutter
- Ice: Directional Ice Breath
- Needle: Downward Spikes
- Parasol: Parasol Twister
- Spark: Lightning Bolt
- Stone: Rock Slam
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Coo's game play is not altered since the last game. Everything he did before is still able to be done, and nothing new was added to his arsenal. When carrying Gooey, his tongue attack is still used. In this game, Kirby's Copy Abilities are changed into the following:
- Burning: Angled Fireball
- Clean: Feather Duster
- Cutter: Aimed Cutter
- Ice: Triple Ice Shard
- Needle: Downward Impaler
- Parasol: Parasol Twister
- Spark: Lightning Bolt
- Stone: Rock Slam
Relationships
Kirby saves Coo in Dream Land 2 from the mini-bosses that capture him, and the owl is glad to return the favor by aiding Kirby through dangerous terrain. The same friendship is offered to Gooey, who also is allowed to be carried. While Coo does not hate the other Animal Friends, he resents when they are chosen over him to assist in Kirby's efforts.
Pitch idolizes Coo, seeing him as an inspiration and role model. The affection is not mutually returned to the smaller bird.
Unlike the other Animal Friends, Coo does not have a significant other.
