The Bomb Block is usually paired along with Star Blocks. They look about the same, both of them yellow and orange, but the Bomb Block has a bomb symbol instead of a star.
Instead of inhaling it, Kirby must hit the block with an air puff, slide, or some other attack, at which point it will explode and destroy any nearby star blocks- but it won't damage Kirby or any enemies.
Sometimes they're used to open secret passageways and act as switches, destroying certain landscape features instead of just star blocks. In some cases, they create solid walls rather than take them away. In Kirby Super Star there were places they were used as traps- hitting the wrong one would cause all the surrounding surfaces to become deadly lava.
They also appear in the puzzle games Kirby's Star Stacker and Kirby no Kirakira Kizzu. There, if a bomb block was involved in a chain it would destroy any blocks to the left and right of it, making it very useful.
