Synopsis

The series begins with Kirby sleeping in his little yellow star ship, floating peacefully through space, when a warning suddenly blares and the ship goes into warp. Kirby travels through a wormhole and arrives at a beautiful solar system. On one of the stars nearby, Pop Star, trouble is brewing. A herd of sheep are sleeping sounding when a giant red octopus monster appears and gobbles them up. It spits the bones onto the frightened Cappy shepherd, and flies away to a castle on a hill.

The first new character to be introduced is Dr. Escargon, who is yelling at a group of Cappies who are telling him about the monster they saw. King Dedede sits eating his dinner in the background. Fumu (Tiff) and her brother Bun (Tuff) run over, angry at Escargon for not listening to the people. Their parents, Parm (Sir Ebrum) and Memu (Lady Like), admit that Dedede is likely to be behind the disturbance. But Dedede just laughs, and points out a tiny octopus he keeps in a tank- which obviously couldn't eat any sheep. Fumu is suspicious, but can't prove it yet.

Later, Fumu's family and a large group of people from Pupu Village go to Kabu Canyon to consult with the wise stone statue, Kabu. He tells them that the creature is a demon beast created by the Emperor of Darkness, Nightmare, of Holy Nightmare Inc. To their dismay, he tells them that their home of Dream Land is doomed- but, a legendary Star Warrior named Kirby is said to come to save them. Dedede and Escargon then arrive in his jeep and accuse Kabu of lying. Before Dedede can attack him, there is a flash of light and a ship crashes on nearby hill.

They gather to see, and the ship opens and a little pink creature falls out. Fumu asks if he might be Kirby, and he responds happily by repeating his name. They're all shocked, except Dedede who decides Kirby is actually a threat and sends him flying into a deep crevasse with his hammer. Fumu and Bun go down to help him, but Fumu slips and falls. Thankfully Kirby sees her, floating to catch her just in time. He runs off, oblivious to their calls to wait, and sees the town from up on a hill. The children all introduce themselves, surprised to hear Kirby repeat their names.

Dedede arrives again suddenly, hitting Kirby with his jeep and chasing him into a watermelon field. Fumu and Bun stop him and demand that he stop, amd Escargon points out to Dedede that they could use Kirby's ship, so Dedede leaves for the time being. Fumu and the others find Kirby happily eating watermelons whole in the meantime.

That evening they all go to have dinner at Mayor Len's house. Before they can eat, Kirby inhales all the food on the table before running out of the room. The kids follow him to find another field of sheep bones, and hide inside a nearby shack. They demand answers from Kirby, when they hear voices outside. They hide Kirby in a sack just as the Sword Knight and Blade Knight kick down the door, saying they're looking for Kirby. The kids deny any knowledge of him, when a new figure appears- Sir Meta Knight. He immediately draws his sword and reveals Kirby under the bag. His eyes flash mysteriously and he sounds quite surprised to see him, turning to leave. He confirms that it's truly Kirby, but there's still the issue of where the demon beast is.

Up at Castle Dedede, Escargon is trying to repair Kirby's ship without much luck. Dedede opens a small purple box he finds, revealing a shining gold star. He takes it and goes inside, just as Kirby floats up onto the balcony. Escargon tries to make an excuse, and when Kirby sees the star is missing, he goes after Dedede. Inside, Dedede is annoyed with his little pet octopus and hits a button on his throne, causing a screen to flip down from the ceiling, an odd looking man in sunglasses appearing. He assures him that Octakon is more powerful than it looks. Dedede goes over to it to see it's grown larger, it's eyes glowing mysteriously.

Kirby arrives to find Dedede's eyes glowing as well, as he is possessed by the demon beast. He attacks Kirby, slamming him into the walls just as Fumu and her family appear. Dedede drops the star, and as she picks it up a falling column nearly crushes her, but Meta Knight pushes her to safety. The little octopus is rapidly growing into a huge monster, destroying the castle as it does. It creates smaller octopuses that start attacking Kirby, with Dedede cheering them on. As Kirby grows weaker his pink skin turns green. Meta Knight sees the star Fumu holds and says it's the Warp Star, the source of Kirby's power.

Kirby gets his second wind and flees up into one of the castle's towers. Octakon emerges from the center of the castle. Just then Fumu jumps up onto the ramparts of another tower, holding up the Warp Star. Kirby gets a boost of power and fights against the smaller octopuses, first kicking them away and then inhaling with great force, swallowing them all. Octakon shoots multitudes of fiery ones at him, which he inhales again to gain the Fire copy ability. Fumu throws the Warp Star, which grows larger to allow Kirby to ride it. He flies from Octakon's tentacles, blasting it with waves of pink flame. Finally he strikes a direct hit, causing its head to explode and sending the rest of it flying into the distance. Kirby falls back to the ground as Fumu and her brother cheer, and Dedede cries at losing his new pet. Far away, the man from the screen before watches them, remarking that Kirby is a real Star Warrior after all.

The next day, with his ship fixed everyone is seeing Kirby off. He doesn't look happy about leaving his new friends, and neither does Fumu but she insists he continue his journey. However, Dedede had other plans and has Escargon set off a bomb planted in the ship... which crashes directly on top of them. As the two of them fight, Fumu asks Kirby if he'd liked to stay with them- which he agrees to happily.

Notes

• Kirby's color changing in this episode as a result of losing health is never done again! Nor does he gain energy from the Warp Star, instead only using it as transport.
