Whoop! Just popping my head in here even though the majority of people don't know me.

You can't not play through the plot and complain about a terrible plot, simply for the fact that you don't know what the plot is. It's hypocritical and more than a little silly. I'm not stating that you're wrong, but I am stating that you can't use this as a reason for being right. Please stop using this argument, as it has little to no validity. If you were to go and play Super Mario RPG all the way through, you could use this argument. Until then, please refrain.

Judging an old game's graphics by today's standards is also silly. At the time, 3D art was a mind-blowingly cool idea. At the time, these graphics were considered quite good. While I, personally, agree that pixel art looked better, at the time this was the cream of the crop. The fact that Nintendo didn't have access to future technology via some sort of time machine shouldn't be held against them. Please stop using this argument.

Arguing about how "Smithy" doesn't sound threatening is overshadowed by the fact that very few Nintendo villains have threatening names. Bowser, Donkey Kong, Dedede, Ganondorf, etc. are all Nintendo villains, and none of them have threatening names. At best, you're being pedantic, at worst you're being stupid (I'll give you the benefit of a doubt and say you're being pedantic, though). Please stop using this argument.


Note that I don't actually care one way or the other about this discussion. It's an argument on the internet about a game I haven't played, but your defenses of your views are simply silly and don't help your case at all.

How do graphics make the game boring?

Although I love Super Mario RPG, I'm not going to argue that anyone give it a chance if they don't want to, especially someone who seems so dead-set on disliking it for whatever reason. You at least played it, so I give you credit for that, even if it wasn't far enough to get to the good parts. I guess the game does start out slow. I kind of though that's what RPGs do.

Still, I pity anyone who's never experienced the awesomeness of Geno firsthand.

Peole really go too far with geno. He's cool, sure, but is he really something to start a fan war about?
I've been flamed for stating the fact, or well extreamly accurate opinion, whatever, that geno will never be in smash bros simply because he was only in one game and he wasn't even the main character of that. Seriously, Is that really something to be flamed over?

Well, considering that
Wolf, Falco, all the pokemon, Zelda, Dedede, Metaknight, and Ganondorf were placed in the rosters even without being the main character
Pit, Lucas, Ness, and Ice Climbers being members despite being in only about 1 game (excluding Pit's return on 3ds afterwards)
Not to mention Rob getting in even though he was an accessory,
Or all those characters that were in Melee like Dr. Mario, Roy, and Pichu.

I don't see why those two factors would completely decide whether or not a character got in. It mainly comes down to fan demand, and Square Enix (since if i remember correctly they hold the rights to the character, but only for Nintendo related games.)

Ok let me ask you, what factor does geno have other than popularity?
The mario series is too big for them to just pick one character from one random game. If nintendo cared about geno at this point, which they don't, they would have put him in more than one game. Heck, I'm not sure if they even remember him anymore. If they were gonna pick a one-appearance Mario character it would probably be from a more recent mario game.
I doubt nintendo even knows how popular he is.

And yet Solid Snake, who basically does not have a Nintendo platform game, makes it.

Yeah, there's some copyright shenanigans going on with Geno. Though he does seem to be owned by SquareEnix now, given they put that in the credits for Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (which I like the most of the three M&Ls which I have played fully through).

Also, 3D prerendered sprites were very appealing back then. 3D rendering software was expensive and required a very powerful computer for that age. Even then it must've taken a good amount of time to get it to draw one frame.

Since when does it have to be a platformer?
Anyway, atleast he's a better rep than sonic, who only had a few games on the wii and gamecube (Oh wait ds but still) He wasn't on the nes, snes, or any classic nintendo system.
I hope in ssb4 megaman replaces sonic (6 or 7 games on the nes? Some games on the snes, also? Yeah, I wonder if he'll make it in or not.)

I... didn't mean the platformer genre. platform can refer to Video Game Systems

Sonic being in Smash was due to him having the highest demand as a third-party character, which is pretty natural, since Sonic was SEGA's mascot as Mario is to Nintendo, and SEGA was also Nintendo's most well known rival until they fell out after the Dreamcast.

Geno was in Mario & Luigi, too.

Also Geno is a Mario Character. The company that owns a character doesn't decide what series they're in. The game they appeared in does.

Also popularity isn't an issue either considering he was one of the top five highest voted characters in the official Nintendo polls for who should get in.
