About Me: I am a wanabe author who is inspired by his favorite Nintendo games.
I have five Kirby games (Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Kirby: Squeak Squad, Kirby Canvas Curse)
I've never played Earthbound but I've researched it and seen the characters on Smash Bros. I'm eager to see it on Virtual Console. Does anybody know when this might happen? I'm a bit discouraged because Nintendo just came out with the Wii U and probably won't pay attention to anything that has to do with the Wii.

It will never happen in English-speaking countries, I'm sorry.

Yeah, your best bet of playing a real copy of Earthbound is buying it on Ebay or something, which is not going to be cheap.

But that means I would also have to buy an SNES and get an old enough TV that I could play it on. :(

Dem's da breaks.

Tip though, if you look for the snes2 you can use the same RCA cables the gamecube and n64 used. No need to screw in that coaxial cable of your 13 channel rabbit ears any longer. This is the FUTURE.

This is true of the original model as well.

There are other options but they are less than legal and, unfortunately, cannot be discussed further here.

EarthBound and the original Mother game were also re-released in Japan on the GBA, and GBA games can be Virtual Console games.

I remember hearing a rumor about a Mother game re-release being in the works. Not sure if it's true or if it'll be available outside of Japan if it is. Honestly, I'd rather have Mother 3 re-released than EarthBound, but that's because I already own the latter.

Even if EarthBound can't be re-released because of copyright issues with the music (which I don't buy because other video games have songs that are eerily similar to well known songs and they got re-released, such as Mega Man's Elec Man Stage Theme sounding exactly like Journey's Faithfully) I don't see why Mother 3 can't be.

Please note, however, that GBA virtual console has only been confirmed for the Wii U, not the 3DS.

Sweet! I already own a physical copy, but that's still great news to hear. I may download it anyway just to support its sales and show Nintendo they made the right choice in releasing it. Plus, this might mean America may finally get Mother 3 in some form.

Negatory. Nintendo isn't interested in giving its already profiting system another boost over the still up and coming Wii U.

The 3DS does not support SNES VC titles at this time.

REALLY lookin' forward to the day it does, though!
