All the evidence given at the moment is pointing to the 'franchise-changing news' being one thing. Jason Griffith is no longer the current voice actor for Sonic the Hedgehog. Subsequently, Shadow the Hedgehog and Jet the Hawk's voice will be replaced also since Griffith did those voices as well. There's a lingering possibility that other voice actors will be changed too, but as far as I or anyone else knows it's just Griffith getting canned for now. We don't know who his replacement is either.

If you wanted to know, now you know. I, for one, think this is an entirely unnecessary change, considering the only voice actors that I've taken issue with are the ones for Knuckles and Tails. Dan Green and Amy Palant respectively. At this point in time, I suppose the only thing left for me to do is hope his replacement is decent.

Overall I'm indifferent if this is it. Jason was really shaping up in later games, but maybe this could mean Drummond is back?

I was originally gonna go one step farther and mention the possibility of no voice acting.


But now I'm wondering if SEGA is gonna add more than just a voice actor change to the announcement. Maybe this could be partnered with a new show or that 3DS Sonic game Nintendo listed at E3?

News finally dropped.

The new voice actor for Sonic the Hedgehog is none other than Roger Craig Smith. Best known for his voices as Chris Redfield and Ezio Auditore da Firenze in Resident Evil 5 and Assassin's Creed II, respectively. Miles "Tails" Prower is also getting a voice change. Replacing Amy Palant is Kate Higgins, the English voice of Sakura Haruno from Naruto. I'll also add that nearly everyone in the active cast is getting a voice actor change. The only known exception to this is Mike Pollock, the current voice of Doctor Eggman.

So there we go. New voices for just about everyone. I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the choices. Naturally, I'll need to hear them in-game before I pass my official judgment, but right now it doesn't seem too bad. Unnecessary as far as Sonic goes, but still not bad. The first game we'll hear Craig and Higgins in is Sonic Colors coming out this year so try and listen closely, everyone. :3

Sonic is still super rad, Sonic Mania kicked butt, really hoping the team that made it gets to work on an actually new game now.

For me, Sonic and his world is full of endless fascination. I would never consider myself a hardcore fan (I've never shipped anyone nor created an OC!) but I do love the drama of the comics, the silliness of the cartoons (Sonic Boom is criminally underrated) and the solid gameplay of most of the titles out there.

Sonic Mania definitely proves there's life in the old 'hog yet. :)

an old forum reply about voice chances, for once the only civil and somewhat indifferent opinion on the changes for the now current sonic voice cast. most people hated roger(still do)as if he burnt down their friggen houses or something, but i am pleasantly surprised that this sonic general thread is or was civil at the time. i can't say the same for twitter and any sonic fansite forums at the time and still now to a degree(mostly on twitter), if anything i don't have an opinion on who voices sonic but i do appreciate the effort the current cast is putting in especially during the pandemic. hopefully they can continue and have fun doing it.
