Yeah, I agree with you there, Dark Matter makes a better villain...
To quote one commenter on YouTube, "The ending shoulda been, 'The heroes return to Popstar expecting peace. But evil had other plans. A mysterious force called Dark Matter has been possessing the citizens and making them commit evil deeds. Kirby Right Back At Ya returns this summer!" Or something to that effect.

I also think Fright to the Finish didn't really work as a movie (well, considering it was just 5 episodes squashed together...) If they were to make a "real" Kirby movie, I think it should be based on one (or even all) of the games in the Dark Matter trilogy, or possibly RtDL...

Nah, if they were going to tie the anime closer to the games then they'd have to adhere to the game canon a lot more. The relationships of the characters would be totally different and there'd be no Fumu, Bun, etc...

I like the anime for what it is. I just wish the dub was closer in character to the original Japanese voice acting.

I wish the dub was closer to almost anything the original anime was. My biggest concern was that 4kids just butchered the feel of the show. Blasting music everywhere just for the sake of blasting music does not make a good show, anime or not.

I hate when any kind of show or movie does that. It's like they're afraid if it's quiet for a second the kids will lose interest. The creators must be aware of how much their product sucks if they're worried that will happen.

The things I hated most about the dub were half the voices just didn't seem to fit. Why did the majority of the cast have to either have an accent or be an impersonation of some celebrity? Rick being Australian was about the least sense making one. And what was up with Waddle Doo's voice? Why couldn't they make him sound at least a little similar to the cute voice he had in the original? I also didn't like how it changed some of the personalities around. I liked Customer Service in the original a lot more than the used car salesman the dub changed him into. And, of course, all the puns, especially if the characters were in some dire situation while making them. Characters shouldn't be joking around when their lives are in danger. It makes it impossible for me to even attempt to take what's happening seriously and emotionally invest myself in the character's plight.

I agree about 4Kids ruining the show. It aired on 4Kids TV (a Saturday-morning block on Fox (long before greedy Rupert Murdoch decided to replace it with infomercials)). Note that Nelvana is the main distributor of Saturday-morning cartoons for Fox (though the network produces other animated series such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, et al.). It is very odd that though Nelvana is Canadian, it makes more money from distributing cartoons to Fox (as well as producing them), an American network that is more interested in money and "family values" than quality, than it is to a Canadian network (such as Global) or a Canadian cable channel (such as YTV or Teletoon). It seems that Canadian network executives know that Kirby: Right Back at Ya! is too butchered for Canadian consumption and I agree to that.

There you have it. 4Kids should have butchered the show less if it wanted to be shown on a Canadian channel, since Canadians, such as myself, are apparently picky about the quality of the programming. It would also benefit Americans as well, since they should also not be bombarded with butchered imported shows with poor voice acting and bombastic music (and edits for a generally shorter attention span of average American children, Americanization of locales, food, and cultural practices, "conservative Christian family values," and worst of all, the American Kirby is Hardcore trope).

This is coming from a progressive secular Canadian Kirby fan in his mid-20s who minds strongly about the quality of television programming.

@puns:
OH my GOSH I FRIGGIN HATE WHEN PEOPLE MAKE BAD PUNS IN AMERICAN KIDS' SHOWS
and it's not just the shows. Kids magazines such as national geographic kids and ranger rick (which my sister subscribes to btw, that's how I know) are good examples. It's just stupid, and I don't think anyone thinks it's funny.

I do agree with the edits in the Otakings episode though.

While you guys are blasting 4kids about doing some things to massively stray from the original...I have something else to gripe about.

I grew up with the dub, and about 10 episodes in, I grew tired of the series. I am a huge Kirby fan, but seeing King Dedede be a direct link for Nightmare to get Kirby with his monsters just bugged me. Dedede orders monsters practically every episode I saw, didn't matter what the storyline was, it had to involve Kirby fighting something Dedede ordered. Now I understand there are some episodes without the ordering of monsters, but I just got tired of the redundancy of Kirby fights the order from NME.

Also, I like Dedede in his Video game form, and it was hard to see, after playing Kirby's adventure on NES and Kirby 64, Dedede practically in cahoots with Nightmare in the anime. I am aware that Video game and Anime universes are supposed be different I understand, I just wish Dedede had some other role in the anime. I watched the pilot not too long ago, and I enjoyed when Dedede came around and teamed up with Kirby.

Some of the stuff Dedede does in the original even, is messed up, like taking down a pollen tree and toting it through town so that the pollen makes everyone's allergies go up, force feeding kirby pollen to make him sick, and even one time taking Kirby's DNA through shot to make a Kirby dinosaur...my goodness...and he even gives the dino fire to make it fire kirby, he's just terrible to kirby sometimes, which I wish Dedede wasn't so malicious. (I expect to be bashed about this, lol)

Maybe I am just a bigger fan of the video game personality of Dedede, probably.

He was pretty funny though. I enjoyed the moments where Dedede would get into some sort of mayhem in which he would do the stupidest of things.

Well, yeah, and he didn't exactly want to KILL Kirby like Nightmare did... as especially evidenced in D'Preciation Day.
But it was like, "I have a problem? I'll go order a demon beast!" About the only problem he didn't try to solve with a demon beast was his debt. xD
It seemed like they were trying to force the demon beast fights into every episode.

According to this there are 20 episodes without demon beasts, so not exactly 'every episode'. 23 if you don't include the robot dog or Dedede's car. Still, not all of them. I for one find Dedede using demon beasts to solve all his problems to be hilarious, but that's just my opinion.

Anyway, on the actual topic, I hate everything about the dub. 'Nuff said.

Tokkori already annoys the heck outta me. How can we make him more annoying in the dubs? Hm... let's give him a voice that sounds like it came from a rejected Beverly Hillbillies character, check. Let's make him very shouty and remove any trace of him trying to be friendly (even if those were very rare scenes in the original), check. Let's give him a leitmotif that sounds like a first grader's attempt at playing like Charlie Daniels (And this isn't a slam against him, I love his work)? Why I do believe my ears are bleeding. Thank you very much 4kids.

Yeah, I already hate Tokkori with a burning passion and the dub made me hate him even more than I already did.

I like the Kirby games and the Kirby anime.
Kirby ROCKS.
Yeah, i hate the dub too...
It's not THE WORST THING 4kids ever did when compareted to one piece, yu-gi-oh and pokemon, but it's still pretty stupid compared to the original.

When i saw the anime for the first time i tough:
Tokkori is soooo annoying, he can't be more annoying than that!

Then, i watched the dub.... i was wrong....VERY WRONG!

But i just hate the dub soundtrack!
The original was an epic fully orchestrated soundtrack, with very BEAUTIFUL SONGS (especially the "PopStar" and Strong Star Warrior/Checker Knights theme.)
And it even HAD SOME REMIXES OF THE GAMES SOMETHIMES!
Heck, THEY EVEN HAD THE FREANKIN' KIRBY DANCE IN A EPISODE!
The 4kids ost sounds so generic and annoying. It's full of stupid music that sounds like it belongs to a 60's american cartoon!
Funny tough, they KEEP the Kirby dance in episode 47, but REMOVED THE ACTUAL SONG!

The soundtrack was actually one of the things I liked most about the english dub. Kirby's first inhale in the series and all the transformation sequences just aren't as epic with the Japanese soundtrack.

The transformation sequences' music is probably the only music I liked in the dub. In fact, the super ability music from RtDL kind of reminds me of it...

The boss melody from Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra reminds me of the transformation sequance in the English version. Some parts of it seems to sound closely the same, here, have a listen. The resemblence starts off at 0:05 or 0:06. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxjZA1a0y_s
